Benoit Mandelbrot died a few days ago (on October 14th) aged 85. He famously discovered the fractal that bears his name.
Recently the search has been on to discover a 3 dimensional form of the fractal that exhibits true fractal detail in all three dimensions.
The following video shows a first quick fly through.
Personally I can’t wait to get my hands on some program that lets the viewer navigate around this wonderous object, play with light sources and colour schemes etc like we can for 2 dimensional fractals.
If like me, fractals have brought you many hours of joy and wonderment, then you might want to join me in raising a glass (or intoxication of your choice) to the late great Benoit tonight! If that honouring involves playing around with XaoS or similar fractal generating software, so be it!
