Black Magick correspondences in 777.
As the days are getting longer the reign of the Death and Black Magick slowly fades. We discussed on this site our perceptions and some general notions of black magick and its associations with death. There seems to be a consensus on that Black magic inevitably conjures up images of dark and evil things and could be seen as taboo in Western society.
I decided to explore the different sides to this by looking at attributions and correspondences given in Liber 777 to move on from our general discussion to more detailed one that may also reveal some interesting insights on Kaosphere Magick as a system at least in relation to Quabalah in which it has its roots.
There are different ways of approaching it. The easy one was to find all attributions connected to Black compared in Table I of 777. This proved complex with 4 scales of colour and repetition of attribution of black even within one scale.
In the King Scale (Column XV) black doesn’t appear at all.
In the Empress Scale of colour (Column XVIII) black appears 2 times. Black flecked with yellow attributed to 10 and flecked with yellow or blue to 32.
The Emperor Scale (Column XVII) is also missing pure black but it lists Blue Black under 26 and 32.
In the Queen Scale (Column XVI) Black is attributed to 3, 26 and 32.
32 is the most consistent attribution followed by 26 and to lesser extent 10 and 3.
This numbers come from Key Scale in Column I (p. 3) and serve as a basic navigation across the Columns as well as numerological attribution. The numbers from 0 to 10 refer to sephiroths, whilst the numbers 11-32 to Hebrew alphabet and paths on the Tree of Life. The path 32 has a double meaning. One in its attribution to Saturn and the other to the Earth. (signified by ‘bis’) I treat them as one for convenience because they both correspond to Black.
Column II lists Hebrew Names of Numbers and Letters and the English Names are given in
Column III
3- Understanding
10- Kingdom,
26- Eye,
32- Tau (Cross)
The page 138 contains additional notes. Here we find 3 attributed to Binah and her titles of ‘The dark Sterile mother’, ‘The Bright Pregnant mother’ and the ‘Throne’ , also listed two ‘Divine Names’ in Hebrew (Tickles Mr. Crowley!)
10 corresponds to Malkuth given the title of :
‘The Gate’ of many things: Death, Shaddow of Death, Tears, Justice, Prayer, of Doughter of Mighty Ones and Garden of Eden. As well as ‘The Gate’ it also refers to ‘Inferior Mother’, Daughter, Queen, Bride and Virgin.
Column IV
It’s called ‘Consciousness of the Adept’ and corresponds all numbers except 1 to the same formation of letters meaning ‘Hua is God; and there is no other god than Hua‘.Commentary on p 139 reads ‘It is to name that which by definition has no name’. Hua compared to Tao and similar concepts.
Column V
God names in Assiah.
This requires some explanation.
In Quabalah the sephiroths known as World of Emanations or Atzilutic World (archetypal world) gave birth to 3 other worlds in descending order: The Briatic world (world of creation), reflection of Atziloth, The Jetziratic world (of formation and angles) and finally the Asiatic world (world of action) called world of ‘shells’ (‘evil spirits) which in plain speech is the material world we live in.

Reading through these correspondences I find it intriguing that in so many ways they reflect our perceptions and knowledge of Black Magick yet, there are areas or symbols we haven’t thought of.
Interesting example would be the 26 referring to Set which wasn’t mentioned but as soon as the Devil attribution in Tarot emerged it linked back to our discussion on ‘Satanic’ aspects of Black Magick. I find these correspondences a food for thought, great inspiration from which to form a practice and meditate upon. Each one of them leading to a deeper understanding of that which is Black.
