Take me into your molten core
Oh fiery, dark and passion filled king
I have walked the shadowy passageways
Of my becoming, burning wings.
Golden starry angel of space
I light your realm, all love, all grace
Illumination to cast the dark
From the world and from our hearts
Devour me and I shall rise
Spring beauty, wild flower eyes, your joy
A crowned, beloved prize.

Frater Sar Kaotec: Pheonix from Ash.
When a friend passes on to what comes after life, it can prove a time of great sadness. My contact with Frater Sar Kaotec (aka Steve Ash) began online a number of years ago when I got involved with an anarchist magic group called the Dionysian Underground. I got involved with them via a chaos magic group called the Invisible Illuminati. These two groups shared a yahoo group emailing list at the time. I first remember meeting him at an event he organised in London’s Hampstead Heath, called the Zippy Picnic.
He became an active contributor and administrator of the KIAwiki, where you can find his biography. Incomplete as it was last updated a few years ago. Maybe we can update this. You can find on the KIAwiki a copy of his article Black Sun Rising, originally published in Chimera journal. He also contributed articles to many other magazines and books, including Oracle Occult magazine and the work of Discordian fiction, Liber Malorum. A note on his wiki bio reveals that he intended to update it with the other articles mentioned at some point. Alas he never got around to it.
Talking of Discordian fiction, there is one more gift that Frater Sar Kaotec left us. Actually there are many more, but there is one more I’ll include in this short obituary. He managed to put up on youtube an audio book version of Discordian classic, The Illuminatus Trilogy, narrated by Ken Campbell and Christopher Fairbanks…

Black Doll
When I founded KIA I was already involved with a different group of chaos magicians that I met up with for rituals, and I came up with the idea of making a set of dolls based on the ‘Eight colours of magic’ in Pete Carroll’s ‘Liber Kaos’. A friend had a set of chaos servitors based on the eight colours, along with a pentacle or rather a disk with a sigil of chaos on it, which they used for evocations of them. This set appealed to me and served as the inspiration for my set of dolls, however whilst they used tiny lead miniatures to create a set which could unobtrusively sit on a shelf, I opted for a larger set, each doll of which could work well in a group working, so I chose to base my dolls on baby dolls I found cheap in charity shops.
The black doll was actually the third such doll I made for the set, the first being blue. By the time I fished even the first doll I had created my own revised version of Carroll’s eight colours, which later became the book ‘Kaos Hieroglyphica’. Back then through I had written only a small essay which later formed the introductory chapter of that book.
The first group ritual performed with the black doll was ‘Subversion‘, a ritual to bring about the decay of the authoritarian system and the growth of the anti-authoritarian movement.
